Professor Adeola Abosede Orogade was born in New York, USA on the 15th May, 1966 and spent her formative years in Northern Nigeria where she had all her basic, secondary and university education. She completed her primary school at Ahmadu Bello University (A.B.U) Staff School in 1977 and excelled with distinctions at Federal Government College, Kaduna. She received her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University in 1988 and rose through the ranks by dint of hard work and excellence to become a Professor of Paediatrics at her alma mater.

She became a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) in 1998 and acquired other post graduate qualifications including a Masters in Infectious Disease as well as a Diploma of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (DLSHTM). She became a Professor in Paediatrics and also a West African Postgraduate Medical College Examiner in 2012. By 2015, Prof. Adeola became an Editorial Board Member of the National Journal of Paediatrics.

Her constant thirst for knowledge propelled her to participate in 36 training workshops across cities in Nigeria, United States, United Kingdom and South Africa amongst others. She acted as the Principal Investigator in 15 research projects and authored 110 publications. As a networker, Prof Orogade was affiliated with 15 International Organizations and served voluntarily in 40 roles both in professional and religious settings.

Since her early days at the FGC Kaduna, she was constantly recognized at various occasions. From being the best Graduating Final Year Student in Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, French, Chemistry, Technical Drawing and Biology (in 1982), to attaining the Nigerian Association of University Women’s (NAUW) Best Graduating Female Student in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1988, she was always top of her graduating class. On a social level, she was recognized as the Mother of the Day for the 2012 graduating Class of Zamani College, Kaduna amongst many other awards.

Adeola married Engr. (Dr) Sunday Adeyemi Orogade on March 31st, 1991, and raised 5 children; Adenike, Adeolu, Adesola, Adedoyin and Adewola Orogade. She spent their 28 years together listening, teaching, and building up her family in the way of her Lord Jesus Christ. In addition to her passionate care for her family, she was fully involved in her local Baptist Church in Kaduna.

On June 10th 2019, Prof. Adeola Orogade passed away unexpectedly in an accident along the Kaduna-Zaria road on her way back from work. With her last painful breaths, she reassured her driver, the second accident victim, that he would be okay. 53 years went by so quickly touching all she came across in specific and definite ways. A testimony to a life of care, love and sacrifice. Prof. Adeola Abosede Orogade will always be remembered as a gem in the rough. She is alive with Jesus Christ!
